| United
Way of Jefferson County reviewing Non-profits for annual funding |
|
While most people know about the campaign that
takes place each fall for the United Way, they may not be familiar with how the campaign
goal is determined or with something called the Allocations Process.
Heres how the process works and a whos who of those in our community who make
it work for the United Way of Jefferson County:
|
| Each spring, approximately 40 experienced
volunteers from all walks of life agree to be part of the United Way Citizen Review
/Allocations Committee. These volunteers are chosen because of their interest in and
knowledge of local needs. This year, the Committee is divided into six panels, which are
chaired by a member of the Untied Way Board of Directors. Each panel member reviews the
required agency budget submission and program information before visiting assigned local
agencies. The panelists review the agencies budget request at a budget hearing, and
then make a funding recommendation to the Board of Directors. The Board then determines
the final allocation of each member agency, based on the Citizen Review Panel
recommendations, and then establishes a total figure to be raised for the following budget
year, which becomes the United Way fall campaign goal. The United Way allocations process
ensures the effective use of money raised by the United Way each year and takes a few
months to complete. |
